“…These unusual sounds were recorded in the year 2123 by a Gaean Science Institute research vessel while on route to Space Station Ceres. Their origin was determined to be in the vicinity of the Nu Cygnus star cluster. While appearing to be a form of alien communication, their precise meaning has yet to be deciphered. Discovery of these signals resulted in the Great Nu Expansion near the end of Old Earth habitation.
It was interpreted as an invitation. It should have been interpreted as a warning to stay away…”

(A ‘rock-ship’ is a nickname for a type of short-distance craft, used for travel within a single star system, primarily between asteroids (“rocks”). They are typically piloted by rebels, rogues and pirates. The NCS relentlessly pursue, capture and detain them on sight. Those who use them are referred to as ‘rock-hoppers’…)

This particular “liftoff” refers to the initial departure of humans from Earth to the region of <em>Nu Centauri</em>. They were eager and excited for their new adventure. However, if they’d known what waited for them there, they would have selected a different destination…
The star of this instrumental track is a confused android who accidentally discovers that playing drums relieves the distressing “echo” in his electronic brain. His mechanical arms flail until they malfunction, his “echo” returning once again.
